FFA Students Who Received Awards

Three Carroll County High School agriculture students received high leadership honors when they attended FFA Camp this summer.

Gage Stone and Johnny Scherder were two of only five campers who earned the outstanding leadership award. This honor was voted on by camp staff, advisors and students based on their interactions, involvement in workshops and overall representation of their chapter. Keagan Hatton was named one of the top 10% leaders at the camp.

“They were two of only five kids and there were about 400 at camp,” said MacKenzie Wright, agriculture education teacher. “We know they’re fantastic, but seeing there were only five kids in the whole camp who got this award and they were two of them was huge.”

Carroll County Schools Superintendent Casey Jaynes echoed her sentiments. “Congratulations to Gage, Johnny and Keagan for being selected as outstanding leaders. FFA is one of several student organizations at CCHS that develop leadership skills for students and continue to move Carroll County to a #cctop10 district in the state.”

The Carroll County FFA Chapter took 15 to camp this year. The students attend classes taught by advisors throughout the state, compete in athletic events and work on team bonding during the week-long camp. They also have the opportunity to make friends from other counties because they are divided into camp groups. Wright and Sabrina Stephenson, agriscience teacher, both taught workshops during camp.

Both Wright and Stephenson said they view their FFA members as family. “We are blessed with the strongest group of kids since before COVID. They are truly what keeps us going,” Wright said.
