NUCOR Steel Gallatin donated funds to purchase a wound simulator prosthetic for students in the criminal justice pathway at Carroll County High School.
Benny Johnson, who teaches the criminal justice pathway classes, said it will allow students to learn basic wound care. Stop the Bleed is the name of the course for which the prosthetic wound simulator will be used.
Johnson said he plans to share the prosthetic with the nursing students at the Carroll County Area Technology Center.
Allison Willhoite, who has a daughter at CCHS and works at NUCOR, said she saw a Facebook post from Youth Services Coordinator Tracey Reynolds seeking the prosthetic and wanted to help. She approached Scott Laurenti, the general manager and vice president of the Gallatin plant, and the company agreed to fund the purchase.
āThanks to our community partners at NUCOR for providing our students with the opportunity to learn with a hands-on experience,ā said Carroll County Schools Superintendent Casey Jaynes. āWe are trying to provide more of these opportunities for our students so they are ready for a world class competitive workforce.ā
The prosthetic and carrying bag will be purchased for $730. Johnson said he hopes to have it in use this semester.
