Home-Based Families on Nature Walk

The Carroll County Child Development Center will hold its next socialization event  for the Home-Based program on Tuesday.

They will gather at the Carroll County Extension Office from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 for pumpkin painting, food, an activity for the children and story time.

Home-Based Services is led by Jennifer Ellis and Erika Cruz. They are assigned to teach parents to be their childā€™s first teacher. The Home-Based option is intended for children from 6 weeks to 3 years old. There are services for pregnant mothers as well.

In recent months, the CCCDC has offered a nature walk at Camp KYSOC, a back-to-school splash bash and an event centered around apples. Anyone is welcome to attend, not just parents.

ā€œWe offer various times, both morning and afternoon, for parents to try and attend,ā€ Ellis said, adding that they encourage parents to make suggestions for future events.

ā€œWe encourage families to mingle and socialize with others,ā€ she said. ā€œSocializations are part of the home-based option and we ask that families attend at least one, if not both, each month.ā€

Home-Based Services does have a bilingual teacher.

ā€œHome-Based is a wonderful opportunity for parents to have extra support in the convenience of their home,ā€ Ellis said. She noted they can meet in other places with families, but a parent or legal guardian of the child must be present. Each home visit is 90 minutes one time a week. Parents choose the activities from the CCCDC curriculum.

ā€œWe work around the familyā€™s schedule, including evening hours to accommodate working parents,ā€ Ellis said.

Anyone who is interested in the program should call the Carroll County Child Development Center at 502-732-7016.
