Film Crew at CCMS

Carroll County Schools will be featured in a mini documentary that will air at a national public health conference this month.

CCMS Social Worker Brandi McIntyre, CCMS Nurse and District Health Coordinator Alyssa Walls and CCHS Social Worker Jeaneen Crutcher all spoke about the impact of moral reconation therapy (MRT). It is a means to enhance moral reasoning, improve decision making and produce more appropriate behavior in students.

Tammy Barrett-Wolcott, director of the Carroll County Drug Prevention Coalition, teaches MRT to staff members and leads group sessions with students. She primarily works in Carroll and Owen counties.

ā€œThe work we were doing in these two counties was noticed at conferences and when they found out that the school was one of my partners, they wanted to do a  piece to spotlight positive collaboration to make a change,ā€ Barrett-Wolcott said.

A videographer team came to Carroll County Middle School this week to interview the three ladies and Barrett-Wolcott.

The video will be shown at the American Public Health Association conference Nov. 12-15 in Atlanta. ā€œAttended by several thousand public health providers and officials across the country, this conference showcases a different organization each year ā€“we were their choice for this year,ā€ said Valerie Gray Hardcastle, St. Elizabeth Healthcare Executive Director of the Institute for Health Innovation, Vice President for Health Innovation Northern Kentucky University.

It will be shown in all the hotels affiliated with the conference as well as on the ā€œbig screensā€ at the conference itself, Hardcastle said. Once the conference is over, the video becomes IHI/NKU property to use as they choose.

The Institute for Health Innovations (IHI), a department of NKU, is the organization working with Carroll County Schools. IHI builds community partnerships to provide education, services, and resources to improve the opioid and mental health crisis.

Carroll County Schools Superintendent Casey Jaynes said he is very proud of this group and its desire to help others. ā€œMental health and substance abuse awareness and assistance is a high need, not just in Carroll County, but across the Commonwealth. This group has helped to develop and  implement several support systems for our community.ā€
