Tears flowed and loved ones beamed with pride as the 130 members of the Class of 2024 entered the Carroll County High School gymnasium to the traditional tune of Pomp and Circumstance yesterday.
The Class of 2024 heard words of encouragement and recollection of memories from its commencement speakers, which included Valedictorian Seth Franklin, Salutatorian Ayden Taylor, Student Body President Rileigh Darnold, Senior Class President Reagan Miller and CCHS Principal Amy Sutter.
This graduating class began its high school journey in the midst of a global pandemic. It created some obstacles for the students and staff, but was nothing they could not overcome.
“We are a class that has faced many challenges. Despite those challenges, we have made the most of our time here,” Seth said to his classmates from the CCHS stage. He encouraged them to “embrace this and enjoy this” day because it will be the last time all of them are together in their high school.
Ayden echoed his sentiments and spent time thanking friends and family for their part in getting the Class of 2024 to their graduation day. “We’ve grown both academically and personally,” he said. He encouraged his classmates to “recognize true success is not measured only by what we achieve, but by how we treat others.”
CCHS Principal Amy Sutter wrapped up the special event with a speech to the Class of 2024.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in your journey. I’m filled with overwhelming pride and admiration for each and every one of you,” she said. “Your accomplishments are a testament to your dedication to excellence.”
