Carroll County Middle School held a Fall Literacy Night this week. Students were able to make bookmarks, learn how to select the perfect book and play several minute to win it games.
Brenna Mefford, an art student at CCHS, created a floral piece of art that was converted into a banner. It was hung recently on the side of Maguana's Unique Gifts and Flowers in downtown Carrollton. Brenna is pictured with Maguana Qualls and Jeremy Cobb, her art teacher.
The championship game of volleyball districts will be played tonight at Carroll County High School. Henry County will take on Eminence at 6 p.m.
Cartmell Elementary students helped their friends make Halloween crafts last week.
A Carroll County High School band student was in need of a trumpet so Youth Services Coordinator Tracey Reynolds set out to meet the need.
She made a Facebook request and, within a short time, received a call from Danny Tharp, owner of 3D Concrete. He donated $450 this week for the purchase of the instrument.
āIt's people like Danny who give back to the community to help meet the needs of our students,ā Reynolds said, noting she and Tharp have been friends since their days at CCHS. The trumpet will remain at CCHS for future students.
āThe CCHS family is grateful for the generosity of our community, especially when it involves improving the school experience for our students,ā said Principal Amy Sutter. āThis donation is proof that together we can do so much to support our students.ā
Congratulations to two CCHS Panthers soccer players for receiving all-regional team honors that were voted upon by 8th Region soccer coaches.
Brandon Jimenez was named to the 2nd All Regional Team while Cristian Roque was named an honorable mention. Coaches from all teams within the 8th Region voted on the recognition.
āMuch of the decisions are based on goals and assists, but I think we will have more players make the team in the upcoming year,ā said Head Coach Kevin States.
Cartmell Elementary School is hosting its book fair this week. Students can shop from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family and Friends Shopping Night is Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. before the Fall Festival. The fair will also be open on Monday during parent-teacher conferences. In addition, students can compete in the pumpkin decorating contest.
CCHS Lady Panthers volleyball player Kassidy Wilson was selected to the All-Tournament team this weekend following The Birds Nest Volleyball Tournament in Scott County. Selections were submitted by opposing coaches. Congratulations to Kassidy!
The food pantries at Carroll County Middle School and High School are open to students. They also have hygiene items available. CCMS students Gregory Humphrey, Hunter Dalton and Maverick Johnson recently unloaded a pallet of food delivered to the school. Donations of quick fix items are always accepted. Any student who needs food can go to the pantries. The CCMS students also prepare food for the Backpack Buddies program, which sends food home with students every Friday.
CCMS art students are turning junk into art. They are recycling items to create paper mache hybrid animal art, such as a cow giraffe, cow chicken or a mouse chicken long-tailed animal. Once finished, they will be painted and displayed in the CCMS art room.
CCHS students were pretty in pink while cheering the Panthers in their contest against Beechwood Friday night!
Carpentry students at the Carroll County Area Technology Center are continuing to work on the "tiny house" they are building.
Carroll County High School will host the 31st District Volleyball Tournament this week. Play begins tomorrow and continues through Thursday. All games are played at CCHS. Tickets are $8 per person, ages 5 and older. Only cash will be accepted at the gate.

Future Panthers were celebrated tonight at Panther Field before the football game between Carroll County and Beechwood. Football players, cheerleaders, band members and flag corps participated in the festivities. More photos will be on the district Facebook page.
