All Carroll County Child Development Center students are on one campus for the first time in years.
About 16 children had been serviced in a modular classroom on the Carroll County High School grounds, but they were moved in mid-November. They are in the 1- and 2-year-old class.
āItās difficult to provide them with everything the kids are provided here, such as nurses and mental health services,ā CCCDC Director Leah Spencer said.
The modular was placed at CCHS in 2013 and operated as a combination program. A new modular classroom was purchased and placed by the Head Start building. Itās been a challenge to get everyone on one campus, but the goal has been met.
āThey have access now to all of the awesome things we have here,ā Spencer said.

Cartmell Elementary student Emily West is the first Carroll County student to enter and win a Star pageant, which is designed for special needs children.
She won Miss Kentucky Star Personality Supreme recently and will compete in the national competition in July. She also won the Rising Star award, which her mom Taylor West said means sheās going to do great things.
āI like pageants,ā she said in a previous interview with the aid of a communication device. āI like to dress up.ā Emily has a genetic condition called Sjogren Larsson syndrome and she has cerebral palsy. The syndrome causes her body to not create fatty acids. This affects her skin, intellectual abilities and speech.
Emily collected nearly 2,000 items for the Fairview assisted living center as part of the pageant and will continue to do other humanitarian projects before the national competition this summer.
āEmily is ready to make her county and community proud, but she is also excited to reunite with her friends that she made in Lexington,ā Taylor West said. āEmily is more than just a pageant star; she is a friend, a warrior, and a wonderful person to know. We firmly believe your differences make you beautiful and that's what Amerifest is all about.ā
Anyone interested in donating items for Fairview or supporting Emily should contact Taylor West at taylorroark26@yahoo.com.
