Students in the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program at the Carroll County Area Technology Center recently completed a unit on Nutrition. Each was tasked with creating a video of themselves conducting a cooking show, preparing a healthy meal or leading the class in an exercise of their choice.
Grace Webster prepared turkey wraps with Landon New serving as the taste tester. Becky Jones prepared pineapple chicken salad sandwiches that were tasted by Taylor Bailey. Lexi Moore prepared chicken fajitas and Gavin Travis led the CCMA class in stretches and air squats.
CCMA students learn front and back office skills to obtain their certification as medical assistants. They learn appointment setting, medical coding, communication skills, processing insurance claims and billing. They will also learn how to take vital signs, prepare patients for exams, wound care/bandaging, phlebotomy, EKGs, how to administer medications, give injections and vaccines and perform CPR and first aid.
A CCMA can work in a doctor’s office, clinic, urgent care center, hospital, lab, outpatient care center, medical research center or insurance company, to name a few. The field is projected to grow by 14% through 2031, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The CCMA class is taught by Julia Mazza.
