A one-day experience as a legislative page allowed CCHS Senior Rileigh Darnold a unique view of state government.
The page program is sponsored by the Family Resource Youth Services Coalition of Kentucky. Students apply throughout the Commonwealth and pages are selected to represent each county.
“While serving as a page, I was on the floor of the House of Representatives during the session to help with whatever legislators needed,” Darnold said. “I got to hear about everything from issues being voted on, to announcements celebrating veterans and Black History Month.”
The legislative page program exposes students to the legislative experience and gives them real-world experience relating to core content. Each page received a certificate from the legislator they served.
“It was great to be able to help with simple tasks that people needed done while directly hearing this form of government being run,” Darnold said. She was assigned to Rep. Felicia Rabourn.
