Food Services

Are you searching for a job that offers more than just a paycheck? How about a role with extended summer breaks and multiple holiday vacations? Well, we have just the opportunity for you.

No, it's not teaching—it's feeding all of our wonderful students!

The food services department is one of the most critical pieces of Carroll County Schools and it's calling for individuals who have a passion for cooking, thrive in the kitchen, and enjoy children and young adults.

“We all work together at our school,” said Shelly Tanzilla, a cook at Cartmell Elementary. “Everybody helps everybody else.”

This camaraderie runs deep among co-workers, with even supervisors rolling up their sleeves to cook and serve when necessary. “You won’t find many head people who will jump in and help to wash dishes or cook or whatever is needed,” said Terri Lawson, a cook at CCHS.Food Services Worker

Heading the kitchen at CCMS, Charlene Stout, who once ran a restaurant, appreciates the demands of food service. "We're drawn to the hours, but it's the kids who keep us going," she explained as her colleagues nodded in agreement.

“You get attached to the kids,” commented Sharisa Snow, who runs the kitchen at Kathryn Winn.

But it's not just the students who become part of your world; your co-workers become like family too. “We all became really good friends. There’s not a lot of people so you get close,” said Lawson, who is in her first year with the district and shown in a photo with her friend and co-worker, Sheila O’Neal.Food Services Workers

Beyond the good working environment, the district offers competitive pay, a 182-day work calendar that is a straight day shift, 10 paid sick days, 2 paid personal/emergency days, hands-on training, and two free meals per day.

The kitchen teams have a lot of fun, most recently competing against one another for the best spring cake. Each team baked and decorated their cakes, which were judged by students and staff. The winner was the high school kitchen. They were awarded with $25 gift cards and a special treat for all of them to share.

“If you like a fast pace, you’re willing to do the work and you want the schedule, you better come apply,” Snow said.
