Students who do not ride a school bus daily practiced evacuation drills last week. This drill related to the side evacuation. Other drills are held throughout the year for the other exits. We promise it wasn't nearly as scary as Cloie McGuire makes it look!

Parent Nominations for the 2024-2025 Site-Based Decision Making Council are now open. Two parents and one minority representative will be elected to the council. Nominations can be made in person at CCHS office or emailed to richelle.wheeler@carroll.kyschools.us from April 17-25. Votes will be cast on April 26, either online or at the high school. A ā€œparentā€ means a parent, stepparent, or foster parent. Guardians also qualify as parents if the student lives with them and they have a court order giving them legal custody. A parent council member must be the parent of a student pre-registered to attend the school during the parent's term of council service. Three groups of people may not serve on the council as parent representatives: Employees of Carroll County High School or their relatives (mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife); Employees in the district administrative offices or their relatives (mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife) or members of the Board of Education or their spouses.

Fifth and eighth grade students in the gifted and talented program participated in a shark tank project. Students had to come up with an innovation or invention to present in front of the "sharks". They had to provide research, create an advertisement and develop a persuasive speech when asking the sharks to invest in their product, according to their teacher, Chastity Snow. The sharks consisted of juniors and seniors who volunteered to observe presentations. They scored students based on a rubric and provided feedback. The team of sharks got together and selected three individuals/ groups to advance to the next level. Our plan is to have these three groups present to community members, Snow said. Winners of the shark tank were Johnathan Pirtle, Kelsey Hash, Hailey Pirtle and Jaxon Routon. The volunteer judges were Cameron Butcher, Trey Stucker, Jaden Lark, Ayden Taylor, Rileigh Darnold, Kylee Kinman and Jack Chowning.

Cartmell Elementary students in Ms. Southworth, Ms. Evans and Mr. Courtney's classes held a poetry slam recently. The students read their own poems about seasons and the group learned the proper response to a poetry reading is to snap rather than clap.
