#MondaysCanBeBeautiful

Final numbers are still being calculated, but Carroll County Schools collected more than 4,500 food items for the Carroll County Food Pantry last week. Great job Panthers!!

Cartmell Elementary student Emily West is the first Carroll County student to enter and win a Star pageant, which is designed for special needs children.
She won Miss Kentucky Star Personality Supreme recently and will compete in the national competition in July. She also won the Rising Star award, which her mom Taylor West said means she’s going to do great things.
“I like pageants,” she said in a previous interview with the aid of a communication device. “I like to dress up.” Emily has a genetic condition called Sjogren Larsson syndrome and she has cerebral palsy. The syndrome causes her body to not create fatty acids. This affects her skin, intellectual abilities and speech.
Emily collected nearly 2,000 items for the Fairview assisted living center as part of the pageant and will continue to do other humanitarian projects before the national competition this summer.
“Emily is ready to make her county and community proud, but she is also excited to reunite with her friends that she made in Lexington,” Taylor West said. “Emily is more than just a pageant star; she is a friend, a warrior, and a wonderful person to know. We firmly believe your differences make you beautiful and that's what Amerifest is all about.”
Anyone interested in donating items for Fairview or supporting Emily should contact Taylor West at taylorroark26@yahoo.com.
